What is a Podiatrist

Becoming a physician usually means a general 4 years of medical school, but for a podiatrist, it means 4 years of podiatric medical school, specializing in podiatric medicine from the start.
While a student in medical school may spend the week studying the entire body and devoting only a few hours to the feet and ankles, a student in podiatric medical school will spend 100% of their time studying the foot and ankle. The same goes during residency training. All of this specialized education and training makes a podiatrist an expert in foot and ankle conditions and leaves them specialized in a field where they will have a better understanding than any other type of doctor. A podiatrist should be your go-to foot specialist for any issues pertaining to the foot and ankle.
